Canons Garth, Helsley, N. Yorks

Canons Garth, Helsley, N. Yorks

£525

This a view of Canons Garth from the south-east. Canons Garth is a late 14th-century timber-framed house with an underbuilt stone ground floor and hall, and with close-studded timber framing to all gables and first floor of wings and porch. It was altered in the 17th century and the late 19th century. An Historic England photograph of the same perspective of the building, taken in about 1908, confirms the faithful accuracy with which Callow portrayed the building and its architectural elements and details. This is entirely characteristic of this remarkable draughtsman and painter of historic buildings.
