This rare box is cast and silver gilt and is realistically modelled to simulate a Fox head, with textured surface to simulate the fur of its coat. The plain hinged cover opens up to reveal a circular grille pierced and engraved with pluming scrolls. The eyes of the fox are inset with rubies and the top displays a suspensory ring. This piece is of a very good weight and in excellent condition. Although we have seen a number of fox head snuff boxes over the years, this is the first time we have seen a vinaigrette modelled in this manner.
Length: 1.1 inches, 2.75 cm.
Diameter: 0.7 inches, 1.75 cm.
