Wall mounted fir dresser by Charlotte Perriand, originally designed in 1952 for her own apartment on rue Las Cases in Paris and subsequently adapted in 1967 for the interiors of Les Arcs.
The story of this piece begins within Charlotte Perriand's own personal environment. In the early 1950s, she conceived her rue Las Cases apartment as a domestic laboratory, designing furniture closely connected to everyday use and the efficient organisation of space. This dresser originated in that context, designed to store and display tableware while keeping the floor clear. Perriand continued to use the model within her own interiors, including in her chalet at Méribel, another essential place in the development of her relationship with mountain architecture and living. Its presence in her own homes illustrates how she regarded certain pieces not as fixed designs, but as solutions that could be reused, developed and adapted to different spaces.
In 1967, while working on the interiors of Les Arcs, she adapted the dresser once again for the apartments of the resort. From her Paris apartment on rue Las Cases to her chalet at Méribel and subsequently Les Arcs, the history of this piece traces almost twenty years of Charlotte Perriand's research around the same principle: creating furniture that was simple, useful and closely connected to architecture.
Made of pine wood, the dresser consists of two side panels with distinctive curved profiles connected by a series of horizontal elements. Mounted directly on the wall, it leaves the floor clear and responds perfectly to the efficient use of space that shaped the compact apartments at Les Arcs.
Our example comes from the Les Belles Challes residence at Arc 1800.
