This exceptionally rare Vinaigrette comes from the Matthew Linwood Countryside series. The Vinaigrette is of broad rectangular form and the cover displays a finely engraved seated man in period costume, eating his meal, with a flask by his side. The dog loyally looks on, seated under a tree. The scene is contained within a gadrooned frame, which is also shown on the base around a central flower head. The sides are also engraved with prick dot bands. The interior displays a very unusual simulated filigree grille, with heart motif in the centre. Matthew Linwood was known for this unusual design of cast grille. This is a very rare subject matter and is illustrated in "Investing in Silver" by Eric Delieb, page 113. The Vinaigrette is in excellent condition and is very well marked.
