The Coasters are of Magnum size and have a circular form with a lobed rim and protruding lobed base.  The sides are lavishly decorated with trailing fruiting vines on a textured ground, executed to the finest standard.  The interior displays the original fruitwood bases with a central silver boss, with foliate spear border, engraved with a contemporary Crest, with garter surround engraved with the motto "NEC MINUS FORTITER - NOT LESS BRAVELY".  The Crest and Motto are those of the Cuthbert family of Scotland.  The Coasters are fully marked on the base and, most unusually, on the boss.  The quality of design and production is truly exceptional, however Robert Gray was not referred to as "The Paul Storr of the North" for nothing.  Wine Coasters from Scotland are very rare, however to find a pair of Scottish magnum sized coasters is extremely unusual.
