The Vinaigrette is realistically modelled as a travelling Drinking Flask. The cover opens up to reveal a finely gilded compartment, where the sponge would have been placed, and the top displays a short tubular section, pierced with roundels, where the aroma would have come out. The sides are engraved with prick dot designs on a scratch engraved ground. The cover and base display a feathery scroll and prick dot frame enclosing a central floral and foliate spray. This piece is in excellent condition and is very well marked in the base. These vinaigrettes are extremely scarce and are reminiscent of the design of the rare Harris and May snuff dispensers. It is also an early date for a Vinaigrette, right at the beginning of their invention.
