The Jug is modelled in an unusual "Can" form.  The main body is engraved with an upper and lower band of foliate motifs and flower heads interspersed with oval rosettes, all on a scratch engraved ground.  The engraving is flanked by prick dot bands and one side also displays a contemporary Crest.  The rim, and loop handle, is decorated with reeding and the interior displays pail gilding.  The Jug is in quite excellent condition and is fully marked in the upper engraved band.  This is a design of Jug which is not often seen and the engraving has been executed to the highest standard.  Charles Chesterman specialised in the production of teawares and had workshops at 62, Fleet Market when this piece was made.
