A fine and rare Victorian cast silver Wine Label with pierced vine leaf and grape border surrounding a scrolled nameplate pierced for Claret and surmounted by an Earl's Coronet. The suspension chain with the unusual addition of a T-Bar.
Provence: Archibald William Montgomerie, 13th Earl of Eglinton & Winton. Probably commissioned for the infamous 'Eglinton Tournament' of the 18th August 1839.

In 1965 a Mr Alexander Cuthbert, a founder member and Honorary Auditor for the wine label circle illustrated a wine label from his collection in their biannual Journal. The fine cast label with vine leaf and grape border surrounding a scrolled nameplate pierced for Madeira and surmounted by an Earl's Coronet was described by the author as: "of rare form, it bears the Coronet of the Earl of Eglinton.   In a later (1969) edition of the WLC Journal, when discussing his collection, Mr Cuthbert states - "I had the good fortune to buy a fine Label with the Earl of Eglinton's Coronet on it , from a personal friend of the Earl".  Another one pierced for Sherry, and illustrated in the WLC Journal in 1975, as part of the Sanders Collection, has been recorded.
