Developed within the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm from 1954 onwards, this stool was designed by Max Bill, Hans Gugelot and Paul Hildinger as a versatile piece adaptable to the different needs of the school. The present version, fitted with a drawer, represents a development of the original model introduced in the early 1960s.
Its construction relies on simple, standardized materials: chipboard panels for the sides and top, with turned wood for the crossbar. An integrated drawer beneath the top adds storage without altering the simplicity of the structure.
Serving as a stool, side table and storage unit, the piece directly reflects the philosophy of the Ulm School: functional, economical and reproducible design, stripped of unnecessary elements, in which form derives from use and method of production.
