Designer

Quinta chair, model 605, designed by Swiss architect and designer Mario Botta for Alias in the 1980s.

Entirely made of black metal, the chair combines a geometric lacquered steel frame with a seat and backrest in perforated sheet steel. The tall, slightly curved back extends the structure into a rigorous composition in which lines, planes and the transparency of the perforated metal become integral parts of the design.

The Quinta belongs to Mario Botta's furniture research developed alongside his architectural practice. Its highly graphic construction and exposed use of industrial materials are characteristic of this period of 1980s Italian postmodern design.

Manufacturer: Alias, Italy, circa 1985.
